What we collect
To run your household's pantry planner, we collect and store: your account details (email, name, password — stored as a salted hash, never in plain text — and optional phone number); the pantry inventory you add or scan (item names, quantities, categories, and expiry dates); household and family profile information you choose to add (member names, ages, dietary preferences, and food likes/dislikes); dietary and shopping preferences (allergies, vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free/dairy-free/ nut-free flags, budget level, health goals); push notification subscription details, if you enable reminders; and saved shopping plans and favourite recipes.
Photos and AI scanning
When you scan a pantry photo or use the camera capture feature, the image is sent to our AI vision provider (OpenAI, Groq, or Vercel AI Gateway, depending on availability) solely to identify the grocery items in the photo. We do not use these photos to train AI models, and they are not retained by Pantry Pal beyond what is needed to complete the scan.
Payments
Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles payment collection and shares with us only what we need to manage your subscription (such as its status and renewal date).
Other service providers
We use a small number of third-party services to run the app: Pexels (recipe photo search, using only the recipe name — no personal data), Resend (transactional email such as verification and password reset), Twilio (SMS reminders, if configured), and Neon/Vercel (hosting and database infrastructure). Each provider only receives the minimum data needed to perform its function.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Some records — such as security audit logs and anonymous usage analytics — may be retained after account deletion, but with your personal identifiers removed, so they can no longer be linked back to you.
Your rights
You can view and update your profile at any time from the Account page. You can download a complete copy of your data ("Export my data") or permanently delete your account and all associated household data ("Delete account") from the same page, in the mobile app, or by contacting us directly — no waiting on a support ticket required.
Children
Pantry Pal is intended for household use by adults and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
